How are the stars awarded?

Editorial assessment published by Helvedrive, as at 3 October 2026. The stars describe the scope of the criterion and do not constitute a certification, an audit or an overall quality rating. Our objectives will have to be validated before opening to real data. The sources are linked further down this page.

Content encryption. 5 stars: end-to-end encryption of the scope compared; 2 stars: encryption at rest and in transit. For Dropbox, the rating covers only E2EE folders on compatible plans; for our offering, it describes the Vault objective.

Document location. 5 stars: document storage exclusively in Switzerland; 4: Swiss region selectable; 3: Switzerland among several storage countries; 2: documented regions outside Switzerland. The rating concerns where files reside, not any legal immunity. Our rating describes the Infomaniak target.

Key custody. 5 stars: E2EE content decrypted client-side, keys unknown to the server within this scope; 2: provider-managed encryption with no established exclusive custody by the client. Recovery procedures and metadata remain to be examined separately.

The service, collaboration and price criteria are described without a rating: their contractual scope does not lend itself to a uniform numerical comparison.

Tresorit already offers file requests, e-signatures and client spaces. We do not present these features as exclusive. A Swiss region and control over the entire supplier chain are separate criteria.
